We understand that choosing a giclee printing company is an important decision. In the last couple of yesrs, the demand for high quality prints has surged and the market responded with many companies with varied experience to enter the field.
Although many printers now offer giclee in their line either as their exclusive product or part of other services, it is essential to understand that skills and specialization may play an important role.
You may have seen studios boasting terms that are registered as specialized, proprietary giclee printing methods; there is not such thing: all giclees are made with a few high-end printers and scanning equipment. What differentiates a good giclee from an average one is the human ability to see color, the proper use of tools involved in the process and the right archival materials.
The term "Giclee" itself is not standardized and pretty much anyone can throw it around with a good amount of freedom. This is why we compiled a list customers should ask any printer, including us.
- How many years has the printmaker been involved in giclee printing? Giclee fine art printing, not just the use of a large format inkjet to for example make posters.
-What materials are being used? Ask for specific brands.
- What kind of formal education does he or she have?
- A list of references who used the giclee services.
- Does the printer provide a binding estimate?
- What is the proofing policy?
- Is there a satisfaction guarantee?
These are just a few pointers. A good giclee printmaking company, when called, should spend the time to explain the giclee printing process. As with any business, you might call at a very frantic time: ask to be called back and make sure that all your questions are answered.
Please make sure that every aspect of giclee production is detailed, especially for large jobs. Return policies may vary in scope; for example very few companies will accept a return if the customer supplies files that are too low in resolution or i.e. not properly color balanced. In order to avoid any problems, we offer a very low cost proofing service. If proofs do not match the final giclee prints, we will reprint or give a refund.
If you have any questions please contact us and we will try to do our best to help you selecting the best medium and options. We have useful information across the site about marketing your giclees.
